PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical deflector in which the motion of light deflection is controlled at a comparatively high speed and stably. SOLUTION: The optical deflector includes a deflector 102, a vibration detector 103, a driving signal generator 104, a modulation timing signal generator 105, and a deflection detector 106. The deflector deflects light from a light source 101. The vibration detector detects the vibration condition of the deflector. The driving signal generator generates a driving signal for driving the deflector. The modulation timing signal generator generates the reference time for regulating the amount of light from the light source as a modulation timing signal. The deflection detector detects the deflection condition of deflected light generated by the light from the light source by being deflected by the deflector. The driving signal generator generates the driving signal based on detection information of the vibration detector, and the modulation timing signal generator generates the modulation timing signal based on detection information of the deflection detector.
