PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide activated carbon which has a high adsorption efficiency, a small pressure loss and high strength and particularly is strong enough to be usable after repeated regeneration. SOLUTION: A molding material having through-holes inside is obtained by extrusion-molding powder materials of organic substances containing lignin such as wood, bamboo, bean-curd waste, coffee lees, compost and paper sludge or by molding machine-processed wood chip materials of such as Japanese cedar, Japanese cypress, lauan, gum tree, bamboo, ramin and Paulownia tomentosa (S1).The molding material is carbonized and dry-distilled by placing it in a heating oven and heating it in an oxygen-free state (S2).
