PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a production process of paper or paperboard and reduce a cost thereof by heightening effects of sizing treatment and carrying out the sizing treatment considering the water content of wet paper by discovering the optimum value of the water content of the wet paper at the sizing treatment. SOLUTION: The apparatus for producing the paper or the paperboard equipped with a sizing treatment device for coating a sizing liquid at least on one surface of the wet paper under papermaking process of the paper or the paperboard is obtained by installing a sizing treatment device D in a region in which the water content of the wet paper 4 is 10-25 wt.%, at a dryer part C or the downstream side thereof under the papermaking process of the paper or the paperboard.
