<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective IPS liquid crystal display device with built-in a phase plate wherein reflection display of a high contrast ratio can be attained in addition to transmission display of a wide visual field angle and a high contrast ratio and display of high quality can be obtained in total environments. <P>SOLUTION: In the transflective liquid crystal display wherein an alignment state of a liquid crystal layer held between a pair of substrates is homogeneous alignment when no electric field is applied, a reflection electrode exists only in a part corresponding to a reflection display part between a second substrate and the liquid crystal layer, a retardation layer exists only in a part corresponding to the reflection display part between a first substrate and the liquid crystal layer and the retardation layer is formed by irradiating an optically isotropic layer with polarized light and has an Nz coefficient of 0. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
