PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet synchronous motor which reduces cogging torque without increasing the number of components. SOLUTION: In the permanent magnet synchronous motor, the rotor 20 comprises: a rotor core 21 made of a magnetic material; a permanent magnet 25 provided on the rotor core 21; and a rotor cover 27 abutting against the end face 21a collar 30 of the rotor core 21. Since the rotor cover 27 is formed of a magnetic material, leakage flux of each permanent magnet 25 is guided by the rotor cover 27 and cogging torque of the rotor 20 is reduced by reducing the density of flux of the permanent magnet 25 guided by the stator 10.
