The invention relates to a drive unit for a traction mechanism of internal combustion engines, comprising a tensioning and/or deflection roller (1) which is provided with two identical single-grooved ball bearings (2, 2') that are in axial contact with each other, are fitted with bearing seals, and can be completed with plastic by means of a cylindrical injection molding process. In order to lower the cost of the roller (1), both single-grooved ball bearings (2, 2') are designed without a bearing seal (6, 6') on the contact side (3, 3') thereof.
