PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the syn isomer purity of a hydantoin ring-containing compound which is important as an optical material, an electronic material, a raw material and an intermediate for a medicine and an agrochemical and a raw material and an intermediate for a diagnostic. SOLUTION: The method for producing a hydantoin ring-containing compound comprises, for example, crystallizing (Z)-2-benzyloxy-5,7-diazaspiro[3,4]octane-6,8-dione represented by chemical formula (A) by using water or a mixed solvent of water and a polar solvent, to selectively obtain a syn isomer.
