PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for inspecting foreign object capable of easily obtaining inspection parameters needed for detecting foreign objects mixed in an inspection target and capable of efficiently performing the foreign object-inspection process. SOLUTION: In the imaging region of a color imaging apparatus for obtaining an inspection image by imaging an image of the inspection target flying in the air, after being sent out from the end of a convey mechanism, such as a belt conveyer, a background screen is set which forms the background of the inspection target and has a unique color which represents the color components of the inspection target. Foreign objects, mixed in the inspection target, are detected by analyzing the feature of the inspection target from the color components of the inspection image obtained by the imaging means (foreign object inspecting means), and the initial setting of the inspection parameters for determination of the foreign objects used in the foreign object detection means is carried out, based on the color components of the inspection image obtained by the imaging means, and further, the set inspection parameters are updated (inspection control means).
