PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a chain tension adjusting apparatus for a man conveyor capable of performing adjusting work by maintenance at optimal timing and extending the slackening adjustment interval of a chain. SOLUTION: A power transmission chain 11, for transmitting power from a driving side sprocket 10 to a driven side sprocket 9 driving steps and moving handrails of a man conveyor, comprises a chain tension applying means absorbing slackening of a chain by being pressed to the power transmission chain wound between the driven side sprocket and the driving side sprocket from the outer periphery of the chain roller, a moving means 17 automatically moving the chain tension applying means according to extension of the chain, and detecting means 19a, 19b detecting that the chain tension applying means have moved by a fixed value or more.
