PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that, in a conventional technology, it was difficult to adjust optimally an exhaust time of a collision dumper to a short time or a long time according to the measuring condition. SOLUTION: The mass spectroscope is provided with a linear multipole electrode, an auxiliary electrode for impressing a DC potential on a center axis of the linear multipole electrode, and a DC power source for the auxiliary electrode, and by forming a DC potential gradient on the center axis of the multipole electrode, the potential gradient is changed according to the measuring condition. As the potential gradient is adjusted to suit the measuring condition, the exhaust time of ions can be adjusted to an optimal either short or long. By making the exhaust time of ions short, mixing of ion information on a spectrum can be evaded, and by making the exhaust time of ions long, the detection limit is evaded and the ions can be efficiently measured, thereby, a high efficient measurement becomes possible at all times.
