PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reducing costs and load on a waste liquid process by reducing the use of a cleaning liquid to the lowest possible degree while improving cleaning performance in which the cleaning liquid is applied in cleaning residual toner off. SOLUTION: In cleaning a member to be cleaned by applying the cleaning liquid to the surface of the member, an amount of toner from which a toner image is formed on this member is calculated in advance.
