PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing an intended fluorine-containing carboxylate from a fluorine-containing ether by a one-step reaction without requiring a complicated process and a complicated operation and without consuming excessive energy. SOLUTION: A fluorine-containing carboxylate represented by formula: R<SP>1</SP>HCFCOOR<SP>2</SP>is prepared by reacting a fluorine-containing ether represented by formula: R<SP>1</SP>HCFCF<SB>2</SB>OR<SP>2</SP>with water in the presence of a solid catalyst (in the formulae, R<SP>1</SP>represents a fluorine atom or a 1-4C perfluoroalkyl group, and R<SP>2</SP>represents a monovalent organic group).
