PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid, by which the 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid can efficiently be produced in mild reaction conditions at a low cost, without needing an expensive catalyst and solvent. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid (hereinafter referred to as FDCA), comprising subjecting 2-carboxy-5-formyl fuarn (hereinafter referred to as CFF) to a Cannizzaro reaction in an aqueous solution under an alkaline environment, is characterized by adding a catalyst and an oxidizing agent to the aqueous solution subjected to the Cannizzaro reaction to oxidize 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furan carboxylic acid (hereinafter referred to as HMFA) by-produced in the reaction to recover CFF, which is supplied to the Cannizzaro reaction.
