Provided are a fabric knitting method and a weft knitting machine, which can prevent designing twisted yarns from being entangled by the sliders of composite needles. The weft knitting machine comprises a plurality of composite needles (4) each including a needle body (41) having a hook (41F) and a slider (42) for opening/closing the hook (41F), a needle bed arraying and holding those composite needles (4) movably back and forth in the longitudinal direction of each composite needle (4), and a feeding member (6) made reciprocative in the longitudinal directions of the needle bed for feeding a designing twisted yarn (9) to the tooth portion of the needle bed. The weft knitting machine further comprises a holding member (7) for holding a loop (or a decorative portion) (9L) in the direction to leave the slider (42) so that the loop (9L) of the designing twisted yarn (9) fed may not be caught by the slider (42). The holding member (7) covers the yarn feeding region for the composite needle (4), in which the slider (42) and the hook (41F) are spaced from each other, on the back side of the feeding member (6) with respect to the moving direction of the feeding member (6). |
