<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has satisfactory display quality and wherein the whole display can be made thin. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device provided with a liquid crystal display panel LPN holding a liquid crystal layer between an array substrate AR and a counter substrate CT disposed opposite to each other, a first optical element OD1 including a first retardation layer 51 disposed on the outer surface side of the array substrate AR, a polarizer layer 52 adhering to the first retardation layer 51 and a first supporting layer 53 stuck to the polarizer layer 52, a second optical element OD2 including a second retardation layer 61 disposed on the outer surface side of the counter substrate CT, an analyzer layer 62 adhering to the second retardation layer 61 and a second supporting layer 63 adhering to the analyzer layer 62 and a backlight unit BL illuminating the liquid crystal display panel LPN from the first optical element side, the first and the second supporting layers 53 and 63 are formed by using triacetyl cellulose and the first and the second retardation layers 51 and 61 are formed by using cycloolefin based polymer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
