A composition containing betain is provided to suppress the generation of liver fibrosis at the initial step, and restore the liver damaged by fiberization to the normal liver, thereby alleviating and treating the cirrhosis of liver and liver fibrosis. The composition for treating the cirrhosis of liver and liver fibrosis contains betain represented by the formula(1), which is a form selected from the group consisting of betain anhydride, betain hydrate and pharmaceutically acceptable betain salt, and is administrated daily in the amount of 80-1,500mg/kg.
