PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain satisfactory image quality over a long period in an image forming apparatus adapted to execute image formation by applying, to an image carrier driven to rotate, an image forming process including a process for electrifying the image carrier by a charging means, by enabling responding to an image flow even in a state where power supply from a commercial power source to the image forming apparatus is interrupted. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes an energy auxiliary means 307 capable of driving the image carrier, separately from a rotary driving system of the image carrier by a commercial power supply line 301, and a control sequence which determines, when the power supply from the commercial power source 310 to the image forming apparatus is interrupted, whether rotational operation of the image carrier is needed for maintaining the image quality based on past image forming information of the image forming apparatus and environmental information for the environment in which the image forming apparatus is disposed, and executes, when the rotational operation is determined to be needed, the rotational control of the image carrier by use of the energy auxiliary means 307.
