The machine for printing on containers (2), e.g. bottles or tins, has ink-jet printing heads mounted on a turntable, around which the containers pass during the printing stage. Individual heads can be withdrawn from the printing position and replaced by a different head. Independent claims are included for:1 a similar machine, but with printing pads mounted on a separate wheel or drum from the container turntable; and 2 a similar machine in which the ink is applied to the pads by ink-jet printing heads.
