The device has circular base bodies with an opening (3) and a sensor e.g. hall sensor, for detecting a field generated by a current flow. The base bodies have two segments (2a, 2b) which are detachably connected with each other. The segments have a electrical contact (7), a positioning element (8) and a covering (9) at joints (5a, 5b, 6a, 6b) of the segments. An annular core having an air gap is arranged in the base bodies, where the sensor is arranged in the air gap. The segments are formed such that the joints are located at a position of the air gap.
