<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit reducing deterioration in image quality following the limitation of the number of gradations. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing unit 2 sets a block including a plurality of pixels to an inputted image, sets the number of gradations becoming the upper limit of each block according to the gradation change range (dynamic range) of pixels included in each block, and performs painting-out processing to each block so that the number of gradations becomes not more than that set to each block, thus suppressing deterioration in image quality, restricting the number of gradations in each block, and improving coding efficiency. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
