PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor capable of effectively reducing the amount of data of an image.

SOLUTION: Disclosed is an image processor including a feature area detection unit which detects a feature area from an image, an information amount calculation unit which calculates the amount of information that a subject included in the feature area has, a compression unit which compresses a feature area image as an image of the feature area, and a compressive strength determination unit which determines a larger compressive strength at which the compression unit compresses the feature area image as the amount of information is larger. The compression unit may compress a background area image as an image of a background area other than the feature area with a larger compressive strength than the feature area image.
