<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting diode which exhibits high projection efficiency in the two-dimensional direction, is superior in productivity, and is highly reliable. <P>SOLUTION: The light-emitting diode 2 is constructed by fitting a reflector 4 to a light-emitting unit 3. Light emitted upward from a light-emitting element 8 is reflected almost horizontally by a reflective surface 3a to be projected in the two-dimensional direction approximately perpendicular to a vertical axis passing through the center of a light-emitting surface of the light-emitting element 8. Such a light-emitting unit 3 with a small diameter that projects light in the two-dimensional direction exhibits superior mass productivity and high reliability but has an optical disadvantage. For this reason, the ring-shaped reflector 4 is fitted on the exterior of the light-emitting unit 3. The ring-shaped reflector 4 is made of an acrylic resin having a refraction factor equal to the refraction factor of the light-emitting unit 3, and is bonded physically and optically to the light-emitting unit 3 with an optical bond. The upper surface 4a of the reflector 4 is a curved surface continuous with the upper surface 3a of the light-emitting unit 3, so that light projected from the light-emitting element 8 and reflected by the upper surface 4a of the reflector 4 is projected almost horizontally in the two-dimensional direction of 360 degrees. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
