PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve stability in recording and reproducing and to prevent a damage of a pickup actuator when seeking the vicinity of the outermost circumference of an adapter-attached disk. SOLUTION: When a disk discrimination means composed of software of a CPU 127 detects loading of the adapter-attached disk, the moving range of a pickup 107 is regulated to be within the range of an 8 cm disk and a range narrower than this, and speed limit, CLV operation, servo gain UP, and prohibition of recording are carried out. Moreover, in SEEK operation at the vicinity of the outermost circumference, the number of tracks to be moved are set to be smaller to prevent jumping out of the 8 cm disk.
