PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultraviolet sterilization apparatus that detects the lowering of a sterilizing capacity to accurately detect the replacing period of an ultraviolet lamp. SOLUTION: In a flowing water sterilizing apparatus 1 which is provided with a cylindrical treatment tank 2 and ultraviolet lamp bodies 3 installed in the treatment tank 2 and constituted so as to irradiate the water being an example of the sterilizing substance introduced into the treatment tank 2 with ultraviolet rays to sterilize the water, at least N (N≥3) ultraviolet lamp bodies 3 are arranged around the center axis C of the treatment tank 2 at equal intervals while 3-N ultraviolet detection units 40, in which ultraviolet sensor units 44 having uniform ultraviolet ray detecting characteristics are built, are provided at almost equal intervals along the circumference of the inner peripheral surface 2A of the treatment tank 2 so as to be mutually separated to a degree capable of detecting ultraviolet rays of the respective ultraviolet lamp bodies 3 and the lowering of the sterilizing capacity is detected on the basis of the sum total of the detection values of the ultraviolet detection units 40.
