The technique for a computer-assisted system to determine the position of a load (1) on a load carrier (2) has a number of three-dimensional measurement points (M) at the carrier in a reference co-ordinate layout (A1-A3). The carrier surface is divided into three-dimensional zones (SR1-SR14) sensitive to different movements. A three-dimensional movement of the load is simulated on the carrier, with the different movement types with a convergent movement against the carrier while stationary. When the simulated movement become stationary, the load position at rest is determined by the reference co-ordinate system.
