The method involves interrupting supply of power to an electric consumer during a fraction of a period of half-waves of alternating current. Different phase angles of a phase section of successive half-waves are selected, where a finite number of angles are uneven or greater than one. A sequence of different functions such as sine function, cosine function and arc-tangent function is performed for the selection of the phase angles in a regulating cycle. Cyclic or random variation of the phase angles from the regulating cycle to another regulating cycle is performed. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for regulating power of an electric consumer.
