PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electrophotographic photoreceptor in which recessed portions are formed on a photoreceptor surface with high productivity in a process of forming a surface layer having the recessed portions formed on the surface of a photoreceptor.

SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the electrophotographic photoreceptor comprising a support body and a photosensitive layer disposed on the support body includes formation of the recessed portions through steps of: (1) preparing a coating liquid for a surface layer containing at least a material (A) and a material (B) and applying the coating liquid for the surface layer onto the support body; (2) drying the coating liquid for the surface layer applied onto the support body; and (3) bringing the dried surface into contact with a solvent in which the material (A) is hardly soluble or insoluble and the material (B) is soluble so as to elute the material (B) from the surface.
