PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a stable drive state, by preventing lowering of a current when a peak current is applied by boosting voltage in the early stages of the drive of an electromagnetic load and then is decreased to a holding current. SOLUTION: A control device has the electromagnetic load, a power source, a control circuit and a switch means. The control device increases a drive current of the electromagnetic load to a predetermined peak current set value by the voltage of the power source, and operates the switch means to reduce the drive current when it reaches the peak current set value. One or a plurality of stages of sequentially lowered current set values are defined in the course of reducing the drive current. In the control device, when it is reduced from a certain current set value to the next current set value, the control device controls to sharply decrease the current set value at first, and then to gently decrease the current set value.
