PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment method for efficiently forming an anodic oxide film achieving satisfactory color developability in a short period of time. SOLUTION: The surface treatment method includes the steps of: applying voltage to an electrolytic solution only comprising a fluoride as an electrolyte; and anodizing the surface of a magnesium based metal arranged in the electrolytic solution. In this way, an anodic oxide film essentially composed of magnesium fluoride can be formed on the surface of the magnesium based metal. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
