PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document feeding and reading apparatus capable of reducing the occurrence of an image defect caused by a foreign substance in a light transmitting member and suppressing a feeding defect of a document caused by catching the document in the light transmitting member. SOLUTION: A document feeding and reading apparatus 100 comprises a document feeding means 1; a document reading means 10; a first surface wave generating means 410 constituted of a plurality of vibrators 411 provided at an upstream side rather than a reading areaαof a light transmitting member 300 in a document feeding direction X; a second surface wave generating means 420 constituted of a plurality of vibrators 421 provided at a downstream side rather than the reading areaαof the light transmitting member 300 in the document feeding direction X; and a control means 101, wherein the control means 101 implements a cleaning step of controlling the driving of at least either the first surface wave generating means 410 or the second surface wave generating means 420 to feed a foreign substance S on the light transmitting member 300 while the document is not fed.
