PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a recorded image from degrading in quality due to an air flow created by a suction platen. SOLUTION: The recording device includes the suction platen 250 by which recording paper 150 conveyed from a conveying suction 210 is sucked in a position opposite a recording head 232. The recording device also includes a control suction 258. If the recording paper 150 on the face where the suction platen 250 supports the recording paper 150 is present in the upstream position opposite the upstream nozzles of a plurality of nozzles 234 in the direction of paper feed and also in the downstream position opposite the downstream nozzles of the nozzles 234 in the direction of paper feed, the control section 258 causes the suction platen 250 to suck the recording paper 150, thereby positioning the recording paper 150 relative to the recording head 232. If the recording paper 150 is not present in the upstream position or downstream position either, the control section 258 limits the suction of the recording paper 150 by the suction platen 250 and causes the suction platen 250 to come into contact with the recording paper 150, thereby positioning the recording paper 150.
