The separator (1) has a rotary drive (39) for a centrifugal rotor (2), where the drive is arranged in a drive chamber (12). The rotary drive is operated with lubricating oil staying under pressure of an internal-combustion engine. The rotary drive is connected with the rotor over a shaft (3) running from the drive chamber into a gas cleaning chamber (11). The rotary drive is connected upstream to a minimum pressure valve (8) i.e. piston valve, releasing a pressure oil supply to the rotary drive when a lower limit value of oil pressure is exceeded.
