CONTROL SYSTEM FOR ESTABLISHING GENERATOR CURRENT TO MAINTAIN PARTICULAR BATTERY CHARGING STATE IN PRESENCE OF VARYING SYSTEM LOAD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved battery control method to be used for a hybrid electric vehicle.

SOLUTION: A controller 10 for a hybrid electric system of a hybrid electric vehicle includes a load 24, a battery 22, and a generator 12. A battery charging state estimator 26 generates an estimated charging state signal 28 of the battery 22. An error signal generator 30 generates a charging state error signal 34 by calculating a difference between the estimated charging state signal 28 and a desired charging state signal from a desired charging state source 32. A desired generator current signal 38 is generated by integrating the charging state error signal 34 by a processor 36. A generator current error signal 42 between an actual generator current 18 from the generator 12 and the desired generator current signal 38 is generated. The generator current error signal 42 is integrated by a processing block 44, and a control signal 46 for controlling the generator is generated.
