<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-heating material for electric furnace steelmaking by which the first charge for electric furnace steelworks can be rapidly melted and which can contribute to waste recycling and also to provide a method for operating an electric furnace using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The self-heating material for electric furnace steelmaking is obtained by kneading a powdery carbon source of≥35 mass% carbon content and a powdery iron source of 10 to 40μm average particle size and≥60 mass% metal iron content with the addition of a binder and water and then shaping the resulting kneaded material into a bar-shaped or granular material having 20 to 60 mm grain size. This self-heating material for electric furnace steelmaking is charged, prior to charging of scrap 2, into an electric furnace 1 at the first charging and subjected to self-heating by oxidation reaction to previously heat the scrap and form a previously molten metal in the initial stage of energization. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
