PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a primary backing of fibers using a polylactic acid-based polymer as a plant-derived polymer, generating no heat shrinkage in a backing step, thus preferable in dimensional stability. SOLUTION: The primary fabric for tufted carpet consists of a filament nonwoven fabric whose constituent fibers are conjugate filaments each composed of a polylactic acid-based polymer and an aromatic copolyester, wherein the polylactic acid-based polymer has a melting point of 150°C or higher and the aromatic copolyester is such a copolymer that 5-15 mol% isophthalic acid is copolymerized to ethylene terephthalate units. In the conjugate filament, the conjugate type is such a sheath/core type that the polylactic acid-based polymer forms the core part and the aromatic copolyester forms the sheath part, alternatively, being such a multifoliate type that the polylactic acid-based polymer forms the core part and the aromatic copolyester forms multiple foliar projections so as to encircle the core part.
