PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of suppressing delay of starting an exposure, when the power capacity is limited. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging device for photoelectrically converting an optical image of an object to an image signal; a shake correcting mechanism for driving the imaging device; a control means for correcting the shake of the imaging apparatus using the shake correcting mechanism; and an input means that accepts a photographing preparation command D1 and a photographing starting command D2. The control means is configured to perform the shake correction in response to the photographing preparation command D1, and also, to store a control compensation value CV of the shake correction. Further, the control means does not perform the shake correction in a prescribed period (e.g. period t10) after the photographing starting command D2 is given, and starts the shake correction using the control compensation value CV after the lapse of the prescribed period.
