PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device capable of correcting a flesh color area of a person to proper luminance, an image processing apparatus, and technique related to them. SOLUTION: The imaging device (image processing apparatus) is provided with: a detection means for detecting a flesh color area in a photographed image; a discrimination means for discriminating whether the photographed image is a forward-light image or a back-lighted image; a calculating means for setting weighting in the luminance of a pixel included in a high luminance area of comparatively high luminance and the luminance of a pixel included in a low luminance area of comparatively low luminance in accordance with the result of the determination in a luminance histogram about the flesh color area, and calculating correction luminance obtained by correcting luminance about the flesh color area on the basis of the weighting; and a correction means for correcting brightness of the photographed image on the basis of the correction luminance.
