PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve in-plane uniformity of potential of a counter electrode, in a top-face emission type organic EL display device. SOLUTION: This top-face emission type organic EL display device is equipped with an insulating substrate SUB1; an array substrate AS, provided with a plurality of pixel electrodes PE arranged on one main surface of the substrate SUB1; a barrier insulating layer PI covering the main surface and having a first opening provided at a location that corresponds to the pixel electrode PE, an organic layer ORG covering the pixel electrode PE; and the counter electrode CE covering the organic layer ORG and the barrier insulating layer PI; and a sealing substrate CS, provided with an insulating substrate SUB2 facing the counter electrode CE, and a metal layer ME covering the main surface that faces the counter electrode CE of the insulating substrate SUB2, making contact with the counter electrode CE, and having a second opening at a location corresponding to the first opening.
