PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compact illuminated operation switches for a portable terminal capable of emitting light from their operation buttons. SOLUTION: The operation switch 10 for a portable terminal comprises a substrate 40, a translucent operation button 20, and a button retaining member 30 to retain the operation button 20. The button retaining member 30 is secured to the substrate 40 and equipped with a light guide hole 33 to guide emitted light towards the operation button 20 and an elastically-deformable flexure portion 35 supporting the operation button 20. In the flexure portion 35, a traveling contact 31 is disposed opposite to a fixed contact 41 so that the traveling contact 31 touches and detaches from the fixed contact 41 according to the movement of the operation button 20. The light-emitting element 50 is provided on the substrate surface 40b opposite to the fixed contact 41 and one part of the element is in the hole 45 of the substrate 40 so that light emitted from the light-emitting element 50 in the hole 45 goes into the operation button 20 through the guide hole 33.
