PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable measurement without destroying hard tissue when evaluating hard tissue is evaluating based on an X-ray diffraction method and then the evaluation of hard tissue with easiness within a short time. SOLUTION: The method is employed for evaluating hard tissue enters X rays emitted from an X-ray source 1 into hard tissue 4 and for detecting the X rays by an X-ray detector 5 which are diffracted by the hard tissue 4 and emitted to the permeate side of the hard tissue 4. The X-ray source 1 generates characteristic X rays having energy equal to or greater than that of MoKα-rays; the hard tissue 4 has the property based on its structure which is oriented in the c-axis direction, and the hard tissue 4 is arranged so that its longitudinal direction is crossed the optical axis of X rays; the X-ray detector 5 detects the strength in the direction of the meridian line A-A of a diffraction line diffracted by a surface (002) of a lattice surface corresponding to the c-axis and the strength in the direction of the meridian line A-A of a diffraction line diffracted by a surface (310) of a reference surface; and thus the hard tissue is evaluated from the comparison between the reference surface and the surface (002).
