PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for readily and accurately detecting a crack of a component in a short time, and a device therefor. SOLUTION: This detecting device is adapted to detect a crack when one component 24 is fitted to another component 23. The detecting device includes: a sound pressure waveform fetching section 11 for generating a sound pressure waveform signal by fetching a sound waveform generated when one component 24 is fitted to another component 23, and a sound pressure level determining section 14. The sound pressure level determining section 14 judges whether a sound level of the generated sound pressure waveform signal is not smaller than or smaller than a prescribed threshold, outputs the sound waveform signal to a frequency analyzing section 15 for computing a frequency spectrum according to the sound waveform signal when the sound pressure level is not smaller than the prescribed threshold, and determines that there is not a crack on the component when the sound pressure level is smaller than the prescribed threshold. The detecting device further includes a determining section 16 that determines presence or absence of a crack on the component by using a spectrum intensity of a low frequency and a spectrum intensity of a high frequency in a frequency spectrum obtained by the frequency analyzing section 15.
