<p>The method involves illuminating bottles (1-3) e.g. beverage bottle, made of plastic e.g. polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and/or glass, with UV radiation, and analyzing a resulting image of the bottles by an image sensor and an image processing system attached to the sensor. The radiation excites the bottle for fluorescence and self-luminous, and the resulting self-luminous image is used to detect preselected characteristics e.g. bottle material and form of support rings (1a-3a), of the bottle. The fluorescence is used for differentiation of the plastic and glass bottles. An independent claim is also included for a device for testing a bottle with respect to preselected characteristics.</p> |
