PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which can short a photographing time or a storing time, and energy saving such as the saving of a recording medium and the like by reducing the number of imaging sheets rationally while maintaining the probability of picking up an image which meets the intent of photography. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises an imaging optical system, an electric imaging means, and a means for acquiring a focal point evaluation value dependent on a contrast component by acquiring image signals at a plurality of points in an imaging screen while changing a focus position prior to photography wherein the number of photography sheets of a focus bracket is altered automatically depending on the focal point evaluation value acquired by the focal point evaluation value acquisition means.
