PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display panel capable of performing a white display having high transmittance while suppressing a colored phenomenon in a birefringent operation mode. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display panel is equipped with a liquid crystal layer LC that operates in the birefringent operation mode between two sheets of linearly polarizing plates 45, 46 arranged in a cross-nicol state, the liquid crystal layer LC includes liquid crystal 62 in a polymer network 61 and, under conditions of applying of a voltage to the liquid crystal layer LC providing the maximum transmittance of the panel, the relationship ofΔn*d=λ/2 holds, whereinΔn is the difference between a refractive index for normal light and a refractive index for abnormal light in birefringence of the liquid crystal layer LC with respect to the light of a prescribed wavelengthλlarger than 550 nm and d is the thickness of the liquid crystal layer LC.
