PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antistatic agent imparting sufficient antistatic ability to a thermoplastic resin even when a small amount of the antistatic agent is added to the thermoplastic resin, and to provide a resin composition containing the antistatic agent and the thermoplastic resin other than the copolymers contained in the antistatic agent. SOLUTION: The antistatic agent contains a terminal end-branched copolymer which is shown by general formula (1) (wherein A is a group which is obtained by polymerizing a 2-20C olefin and has 400-1,500 number-average molecular weight; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a hydrogen atom or a 1-18C alkyl group and at least one of R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>is the hydrogen atom; X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>contain each a polyalkylene glycol structure, are the same or different from each other and are each a linear or branched group having 50-1,800 number-average molecular weight) and has≤2,300 number-average molecular weight.
