PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide resin particles that comprise zirconium oxide particles as their constituent component having high dispersibility in various monomers, resins, etc., and have characteristics such as high refractive index etc., inherent in zirconium oxide, and high transparency, and to provide a method for producing the same and to provide a resin composition comprising the resin particles as a constituent component. SOLUTION: The method for producing the resin particles containing zirconium oxide nanoparticles comprises a process of preparing a reaction liquid in which droplets containing at least a monomer and zirconium oxide nanoparticles are dispersed in a water-based solvent and a process of carrying out a polymerization reaction in the droplets. The zirconium oxide nanoparticles are coated with two or more of coating agents and at least one of the coating agents is represented by the formula (I): R<SP>1</SP>-COOH (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a≥6C hydrocarbon group).
