PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of manufacturing a carbon nanotube attracting public attention as a composite material, an adsorption material, an electronic material (e.g. an electron source) or the like, with less impurities, at a low cost and on a massive scale and also can control the diameter of the resultant carbon nanotube. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a carbobn manotube comprises subjecting a composite of a macromolecular compound having conjugatedπ-electrons and a clathrate including theπ-electron-based conjugated macromolecular compound or a polynucleotide to a carbonizing treatment.
