An apparatus and a method for trimming an image are provided to generate the trimmed image data in one moving picture file, thereby providing convenience to a user. An image trimming apparatus comprises a trimming section setting unit(49-1), an encoding unit(49-2), a controller(49-3) and a storage unit(47). The trimming section setting unit sets up a trimming section about each of a plurality of moving picture files. The encoding unit encodes image data of the set trimming section. The controller synthesizes the encoded video data to generate one moving picture file. The storage unit comprises the first area in which image data of the trimmed section are stored and the second area in which an address and size of the first area are stored.
