A stitch flap cutting block 16 is mountable to an upper cutting head (9, figure 2) of a board blank cutting machine, in conjunction with a slotting knife (14, figure 2). A sheet (11, figure 2) of board passed between the upper cutting head (9) and a lower anvil head (12, figure 2) of the machine is cut to form a blank (1, figure 1) for a box or the like. The stitch flap cutting block (16) cuts an accurate edge of a stitch flap (4) of the blank (1). The cutting block 16 comprises a steel body 17 with a cylindrical barrel 19 holding a cylindrical spring block 22 of polyurethane, to which is mounted a blade holder 24 carrying an elongate blade 15. The blade 15 moves within a transverse slot (25, figure 4) across the body 17, and is both deflectable into the body 17 and may rock about a midpoint of the slot (25). Impact forces are reduced, cleaner cuts are produced, and re-setting of the blade is required much less often. An alternative stitch flap cutting block (26, figure 5) is mountable to the cutting head (9) by means of a separate side arm (28, figure 5), so that it may be mounted to cutting heads (9) having different diameters. |
