A seating article has a combined seat, side and back structure comprising a pair of moulded shells 1, 2 preferably made from cellulose and contacting one another in the seat portion and at the edges of the shells and having hollow spaces between the shells in the side and back portions. As shown in Fig. 3, the perimeter of the contacting shells in the seat portion is shaped to sit on a rectangular frame member 34 to which legs are attached. The seat portion has a recess 4 (Fig. 6), the rear part of which is deeper than the forward part. The recess 4 may house resilient means such as steel springs, sponge rubber or elastic bags containing air. The seating article may be armless or as shown in Fig. 7, moulded arm sections 25 may be fixed over the side portions 17, 18 and moulded wing sections 27 fastened to the arm sections. Rubber webs 41, 45 extend across the seat. Plastic resilient cellular material such as polyurethane foam may be used to form cushioning sections 46, 47, 48 and 49 preformed to the seating article's basic structure.
